What is World Tree Day?

Established in 1969, World Tree Day (also called World Forestry Day) takes place each year on June 28.

It honors the vital role of trees: oxygen, biodiversity, shelter, memory.

This day invites us to reconnect with the Earth in sacred reciprocity—
to feed the trees with our essence,
and to celebrate the regenerative power of the feminine.

Why are trees so important?

Protecting forests = protecting life — for people and the planet.

  • Trees and forests are the lungs of this planet.
  • Forests help maintain soil fertility, protect water cycles, support pollinators, and prevent erosion—making them crucial allies in sustainable food systems.
  • Millions of people rely on forests for food, medicine, fuel, and income.
  • Trees and forests provide fruits, nuts, roots, mushrooms, edible leaves, and even insects that are key sources of nutrition for many communities.
  • Trees are guardians of life, connected deeply to the Earth, and also to the sun, moon, stars and cosmic womb. They form a bridge between Heaven and Earth and they act as messengers of both realms.

Trees and the Womb: a sacred exchange

We are not separate from nature…

There is a sacred rhythm pulsing through the earth, a rhythm shared by the trees and the womb, an invitation to remember our place in the great circle of life.

Trees are silent keepers of time. Trees are the ancient ones—rooted in the womb of the Earth, reaching toward the moonlit sky. Their sap rises and falls with the seasons, just as the womb journeys through inner seasons and the blood rises and falls within the body.

Like the womb, trees hold and release, they nurture and shed. In winter, trees bleed inward. The trees’ roots mirror our own inner descent—a call to anchor in the deep feminine. In spring, they open with blossoms and buds—just like the womb opens a new cycle, blooming with the potential of life. Every fallen leaf of the tree is an offering, a letting go – a reflection of our inner fall.

The womb is the inner tree of life, with roots of ancestral memory and branches of future dreaming.

Creating reciprocity with trees

Creating reciprocity with trees is a sacred, beautiful practice that allows for a meaningful and two-directional exchange with nature in general and trees in particular.

Here are a few soulful and earth-honoring ways to enter into a reciprocal relationship with the trees:

1. Plant a Tree or a Native Sapling

  • Why: It’s a direct act of giving back to the Earth.

  • How: Choose a native species, plant it with intention, and name it. Visit it often, sing to it, or write letters to it.

  • Ritual addition: Offer a strand of hair, a pinch of ash, or a few tears as you plant it.

2. Water a Tree During Dry Days

  • Why: Many urban and young trees suffer from dehydration.

  • How: Bring water to a tree in your neighborhood or forest regularly during hot months. Let the act become a form of devotion.

  • Sacred practice: Whisper blessings into the water before pouring — speak your gratitude or dreams.

3. Offer a Song, Poem, or Story

  • Why: Trees are listening beings — attuned to sound, vibration, and heart energy.

  • How: Sit under a tree and sing it a song or read aloud a poem — even one you write just for them.

  • Optional: Leave the written poem rolled in a natural fiber and tied with a red thread near the roots.

4. Light a Candle or Burn Herbs in Their Honor

  • Why: Fire is a symbol of transformation and reverence.

  • How: At dusk or dawn, light a small candle (safely!) near a tree and offer a moment of silence or prayer. You may also offer sacred smoke (e.g., rosemary, mugwort, pine resin).

  • Blessing idea: “As you breathe for me, may I live for you.”

5. Weave a Red Thread or Nature Mandala as Offering

  • Why: A creative act honors life and creates beauty in their presence.

  • How: Weave red threads through branches (gently), or build a mandala of stones, leaves, petals at the base of the tree.

  • Optional: Include intentions for healing, justice, or regeneration.

6. Remove Trash or Plastic from Their Base

  • Why: Trees are often silently suffering in polluted spaces.

  • How: Bring a basket or bag and gently clear the area around a tree. Let it be a ritual of devotion — like cleaning the feet of an elder.

  • Blessing: “May you breathe more freely. May you grow in peace.”

7. Bring an offering of your moonblood

Forests feed us. They offer fruits, seeds, nuts, roots, shelter, and oxygen.

In return, we can also nourish the trees — not only with compost or care, but with something deeply sacred and regenerative: menstrual blood.

Menstrual blood is not waste

It is rich, intelligent, and fertile fluid from the lining of the womb. It contains:

  • Stem cells
  • Minerals and iron
  • Hormones and nutrients
  • Encoded information from the cycle of creation

It is biological gold

And when returned to the Earth, it:

  • Feeds the soil with minerals and organic compounds
  • Enriches plant life similarly to compost or natural fertilizer
  • Carries prayers and intention when offered ritually, enhancing the energetic connection between Woman and Tree

Why Trees Love Our Offerings

When we offer our blood

  • We restore reciprocity between feminine and forest
  • We honor the Tree of Life as an ancestral axis — root to branch, womb to sky
  • We ground our sacred cycles into the soil, becoming part of Earth’s regenerative rhythm

A Sacred Exchange of Nourishment

You feed me, I feed you.
This simple act of returning blood to soil becomes a form of:

  • Rewilding the feminine
  • Re-enchanting ecology
  • Reclaiming cyclical power
